Wiluna Horticultural Industry Development Project
The Wiluna Horticultural Industry Development Project is an initiative of the Wiluna Regional Partnership Agreement (RPA).

Discussions occurred between
  • Alan Stewart Wiluna Regional Partnership Agreement (RPA)
  • Bryan Hunter, Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR), Perth
  • Jon Wilson, Indigenous Business Australia (IBA), Perth
  • Allan Cooney, Centrefarm Aboriginal Horticulture Limited (CAHL), Alice Springs
This has led to an agreement that the establishment of a range of horticultural crops, bio‐fuels and forestry on the once successful orange orchard referred to as Desert Gold would have a positive outcome for Aboriginal families in the Wiluna region.

The Wiluna Horticulture Industry Development Project (WHIDP) would be based on re‐leasing from the West Australian government the 1000 hectare area about 10 kilometres east of Wiluna (Wiluna Lot 17 referred to as Desert Gold (DG) + Lots 134 and 135 (known as Duuwa‐wati,).
Four Aboriginal families have expressed interest in developing separate blocks.

It was agreed that funding be sought to do a scoping study to develop and operate this area for a range of horticultural crops. This study would include a social as well as an economic component.
The West Australian Government will re‐lease the land and access to the groundwater entitlement only against a sound business case.
It was agreed that a scoping study was required to provide terms of reference for a business plan that could be used to support releasing land for development of horticulture and submissions for development funding. This study would include a social as well as an economic component.

Centrefarm was engaged to complete the scoping study and produced the following report on the WHIDP.

This report has an overview and two parts: The documents may be downloaded from the links below
