Keynote Speakers

  • WA Chief Scientist Professor Lyn Beazley promoted the 2010 International Year of Biodiversity and its impacts on the state of WA, Australia and around the world highlighting the importance of science engagement processes in the future of the Mid West region.
  • Professor Jörg Imberger, Director Centre for Water Research at the University of Western Australia showcased the development and potential of ARMS (Adaptive Real-time Management System). ARMS receives input from numerous data sources (such as ABS, real time sensors and historical environmental data) which are then visualised on the web. This provides all stakeholders ranging from primary school students through to politicians, community and business leaders with information and decision making tools regarding the impact of our past/current actions, climate change, land changes and large scale developments.
  • Dr Michelle Storey, CSIRO Square Kilometre Array (SKA) Executive Officer  updated the Mid West community on the current status of the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP) project, the Australian bid for the SKA and detail why the Mid West is the best place in the world for the SKA and radio astronomy.
